l am talking about the 4 or 6 inch high strip of wood that runs along the Pancake wall and the floor.l can not paint it while it is still attached because Registered User paint might get on the carpet. But taking it off the wall and re-bonding it Joined: Saturday, 22nd of May 2010, 10:22:50 to the wall seems like a major work.Anybody has a good tip? Two things. Most of it isn't bonded, its just nailed in. If you Kimtaro begin at one side wiht a flat screwdriver or a small pry bar you should be Registered User able to pop it off. plastic drop cloth, & tuck it under the trim on the down, or carpet side,
with a thin putty knife.. the carpet should give way enough that you can
tuck the plastic under the mop board (floor board, molding, or whatever
you want to call it) & prevent paint from getting on the carpet. Use some
masking or painters tape on the top side to keep it from getting on the
walls & get to work.

don't use the ''floor shield'' method. you are going to get Chevy Girl paint on the carpet. you should tape it. for the top of the base trim buy Registered User frog tape. it is green & has a special adhesive on the back that fills Joined: Friday, 23rd of April 2010, 20:06:28 small gaps in the wall, like the depressions common with knock down Posts: 1637 texture, & help prevent bleed through. when it comes to the carpet there Viewed 2232 times are two options,
1. peel the carpet back away from the tack strip. if you grasp the carpet
fibers near the corner with pliers you will find it pulls up quite easily.
pull it back a foot & paint without worry. just don't kneel or walk on the
edge of the carpet otherwise you might crease it & that could show up when
you put it back. then when you are don painting & the paint has thoroughly
dried, several days, put the carpet back carefully so as not to scratch the
new paint & push down the edges with a wide putty knife. then re seat it on
the tack strip with a hammer. now ur thinking that you need special tools.
nope the carpet does not need to be stretched & if you are careful not to
damage it as i mentioned above you should never be able to tell.
when i used to install hot water heating system we would roll the carpet
back all the time without incident.
option 2. you can tape the carpet edge also. get good wide blue painters
tape & just make sure that you push some down bettween the carpet & the
trim. make sure the tape is adhered down where you pushed it in first then
as you pull it back it will pull the carpet down some. paint several light
coats instead of one heavy one. to much paint on ur brush & it could glob
under the tape. then make sure the paint is thoroughlyy dried again before
removing the tape. if you take it off to soon whatever paint is on the tape
will find its way on to the carpet. aguarantee
good luck hope this helps.

What you need to do is purchase a thin metal paint shield. You POT POT put the shield against the base board & slide it down against the Registered User carpet. They are usually about 4ft. long. You hold this ''paint shield'' Joined: Wednesday, 26th of May 2010, 16:19:25 down against the base board & paint it & the shield if you have to being Posts: 1482 careful not to put gobs of extra paint near the bottom, only a moderate Viewed 993 times amount to cover the base board. lift it up & wash it off in the tub or
sink, dry it with a paper towel & do another 4 ft. Don't be afraid of this
because it is really simple & efficient.
